Tulip Ballade
Circa 1953, this award-winning beauty has sculpted reddish-magenta petals highlighted with high contrast ivory-white edges. When fully open on a sunny day, its interior, white-edged yellow base lights up the garden. Ballade usually opens darker reddish-magenta and matures to a brighter, somewhat fluorescent, magenta with crisp white edges that eventually turn pinkish-white. Whether planted in a dedicated drift or mixed with its pristine companion White Triumphator, or another Lily Flowering showboat, Mariette, it never fails to impress. Tulip Class: Lily Flowering. Bulb size: 12 cm/up. May. HZ: 3-7. Height: 22".
