Tulip Akebono

The semi-double sport of Jewel of Spring, this huge camellia-like bloom is primrose-yellow with crisp red petal edges, occasional pale raspberry striations, feathered green sepals and a steel-blue, interior starburst. Meaning Dawn or daybreak in Japanese, it has a faint, sweet fragrance. Tulip Class: Giant Darwin Hybrid. Bulb size: 12 cm/up. Mid-April. HZ: 3-7. Height: 20" to 22".

Their large, fully double blooms are superb for both the garden and for cut flower arrangements. Note: Insufficiently cold winters, winters with inconsistent cold temperatures and poor snow cover or raised bed plantings may result in Peony Flowering Tulips blooming in a single form due to poor root formation.
