The Creamsicle Planet Lily Mixture

The strain of Planet Lilies is remarkable because of their huge, planetoid flower size and because they are upward-, or upward- and a little outward-facing. Here we have created a fragrant creamsicle blend of Lilies Orange Planet, White Planet and Yellow Planet. (This is for you, Woody.) Lilies arrive in our warehouse in early to mid-October and are shipped immediately thereafter. Bulb size: 16/18 cm. Bloom time: July/August. Horticultural zones 4-8. Plant 6" deep and 12" apart. Height: 4’ to 5’ and taller over time!

  • Information
  • Chinese Trumpet Lilies
The introduction of the Regale Lily from China in 1903 gave rise to spicy-fragrant Chinese Trumpet Lilies, also known as Aurelian Hybrid Lilies. Our heirloom Chinese Trumpet Lilies yield large, exquisitely formed, slightly recurved, trumpet-shaped flowers that are graced with elegant, long anther-tipped filaments. The outside of each 6"-long flower has narrow ridges of luminous green that accents both its coloration and form.

The stature and magnificence of first year blooms is astounding, yet each plant will become even more substantive as the years go by. Our clients report that some have grow up to 8’ tall with 25 or more flowers per stem. Due to their height and weighty flower presence, staking is a must, particularly in advance of summer winds and rains. It’s best to plant Lily bulbs in the fall so they may develop more mature root systems and, therefore, more substantive plants the following summer. Chinese Trumpets make the perfect cut flower (so add some to your cutting garden) and are terrific at the back of perennial beds. Among the last of the Dutch bulbs to be harvested, we ship Chinese Trumpet Lilies in mid to late October, just as soon as they arrive in our warehouse from the Netherlands. Top size bulbs: usually 18/20 cm (depending on harvest). In horticultural zone 5 under normal weather and site conditions, Chinese Trumpets bloom in July/August. Plant 6" deep and 12" apart. Horticultural zones 4-8. Height: 4' to 6'.
