Brodiaea californica Babylon

This selection out of B. californica has clusters of star-shaped, amethyst-pink flowers with darker midveins. It is adored by the Dutch cut flower trade (as well as bees and butterflies).

Brodiaea is best grown in somewhat moist, fertile, well-draining soil in full sun to partial sunlight (never shade) with winter and spring moisture followed by summer dryness. (It should not be planted in a spot that becomes waterlogged at any time.)

Named in honor of 18th century botanist James Brodie, Brodiaea had been a genus in which varieties of Dichelostemma and Triteleia were included. They have recently been split apart into their own genus: you may find them on our website under their new genus names. Top size I corms. Full to partial sunlight. Bloom time in horticultural zone 5: May/June. Plant 4" deep and 3" to 4" apart. HZ: 6-9. Height: 24".

Brodiaeas are The Art & Soul of Spring.
